Our co-founder and CEO, Felipe Hildebrand, was recently interviewed by EdTech Chronicle as part of their "Five Questions for Founders" series. He talked about the problem Neomind was built to solve, where the idea came from, and where he sees the company in five years. Here's a look at what he shared.

The problem Neomind set out to solve

Felipe explained that individualized teaching works, but it has historically been too scarce and expensive to reach most students. In a traditional classroom, one teacher has to move a group through material at roughly the same pace, so when a student misses a foundational concept, the gap tends to compound because the class keeps moving.

Neomind uses AI to make that kind of one-to-one learning experience more accessible, not by giving students faster answers, but by understanding where a learner actually is and adapting the instructional path around them. At the center of this is the Learning Genome, an evolving model of how a student reasons and progresses, paired with the Instructional Mentor, which uses that understanding to decide how and when to teach each concept.

"The goal is not to give students faster answers. It is to understand where a learner actually is... so the learner can keep doing the work of thinking."

Where the idea came from

The idea became personal for Felipe when his daughter moved to a new school and started learning in English, which isn't her first language. She was falling behind in math, and he couldn't easily see where the difficulty had started or what would actually help her.

At the same time, after years in strategy consulting, he became interested in a different question: not how AI could make existing tools faster, but where it could remove a constraint that had previously seemed impossible to overcome, like a teacher's limited ability to give each student individual attention. That became the founding question behind Neomind.

A challenge along the way

One challenge Felipe pointed to was entering a market where almost every AI product for students gets labeled an "AI tutor," even though that label covers very different experiences. Instead of competing on the label, the team focused on being precise about the actual learning experience: a system that begins with understanding the student rather than just answering questions, identifies the knowledge underneath a problem, and can move backward to repair a gap before moving forward again. That thinking led the team to describe what they've built as Personal Learning Intelligence.

What he's proudest of

Felipe highlighted two things: reaching a point where the product can deliver individualized instruction at a price accessible to ordinary families, and the team behind it, now about 30 people spanning education, technology and learning science working together rather than in separate lanes.

Where Neomind is headed

Looking five years ahead, Felipe hopes Neomind grows beyond math K-12 into a full "Learn Everything" platform, covering all subjects as well as higher education and lifelong learning, and reaching students well beyond the U.S. He also sees deeper partnership with schools and districts as part of that future, with individualized support becoming more connected to what happens inside the classroom rather than replacing it.
